Zanzibar is an extremely diverse and idyllic little island, found just off the coast of Tanzania. Jump on a plane from the capital, Dar Es Salaam to Stone Town, which takes approximately half an hour. The island is the perfect place to kick back and relax after seeing some of the finest game reserves in either Kenya or Tanzania, trundling across the Masai Mara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro by Jeep can leave you desiring something a little more calming.
Zanzibar’s stone town is renowned for it’s elaborate bas-relief carved doors and mazes of narrow streets.
Along with the stunning architecture, the inhabitants are extremely hospitable. I highly advise a tour around the spice farms, not only can you find virtually any type of spice and herb, but your host starts will amuse you by singing, ‘asante sana squashed banana‘ whilst climbing a palm tree!
The beaches are extremely picturesque…
If you fancy a visit to the underwater world, hop on one of the local’s boats with a snorkel in hand and discover the colourful corals and swim among the fish!
